535 wk 1
What did we do this week that I can use in my job? Well, I never thought that I would say this, but I am interested in using blogs in my classes. Teaching automotive and collision repair is rare. No one in the state does anything like I do in the classroom, and sometimes I have trouble being creative enough to put ideas to use in my classroom. Blogging was one of those things that I thought I could never put to use in my classroom. After reviewing some of the resources this week I have been inspired to at least try blogging. I am going to start by adding an automotive blog to my school website and TRY to post once a week. Once I get established in my own schedule, I will require students to occasionally post a response to my discussion. This will be a great place to start in my classes and I know that I can grow from there!

Jay, as a fellow automotive teacher, I think the use of blogs would be great for our classes. I could see huge potential dealing with alternative fuel systems. They are ever changing and instructors and students could research information about these systems from other blogs as well as keep detailed information that they have research and experience on their own blog.
ReplyDeleteJay,
ReplyDeleteI think that you have the unique opportunity to blog about something of value to the world. Because of the nature of your job, you could really highlight the skills of your students to a world market. Language arts teachers are a dime a dozen, but you could fill a useful niche in the world. I would love to see the feedback that your students would get from other students throughout the world. What an opportunity for your students to teach others their age, and show what they are accomplishing in your classes. I am planning to start a blog second semester on a limited basis with my classes, but as I said, I think the nature of what you teach would provide an interesting experience for your students. :)
Hey Jay,
ReplyDeleteI also plan to start a blog for my class now with hopes of one entry per week. What do you plan to write about in your blog? Do you think you will include class information or more information on your content area?
I think you have a great plan in place and would love to see the end result. I find that students who are sometimes affraid to ask questions in class are very open to asking those questions behind closed doors. You may very well find that your students come up with some very intuitive and thoughtful questions and responses in your blog setup. In addition, by presenting items in a webbased setting, it will provide your students with the time necessary to process the information and review it on their own time. This all may make your students even more engaged in the laarning of the everyday classroom and could be a huge asset for you.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, not only can you get the kids interested in blogging but it will be a good way of logging what was done in class and the student's reactions to the topic. I hope it goes well. I'm sure it will.
