I enjoyed the discussion on micro blogging. I am not all that thrilled to have made a twitter account because I am not sure it is useful in my busy life. If I had a phone that had the internet, maybe it would be more fun, but I don't. Blogging for class does interest me however, I think it is a great way to communicate with students and also give them a forum to express themselves and maybe be more creative than they are in a live classroom. I also found a number of educational blogs to model. I did not find any blogs in my content area, but that does not surprise me. When I start my blog, maybe others in the automotive industry will follow.

Jay,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you concerning having to create a Twitter account, but I suppose time will tell if it serves me in any meaningful ways. I also made a facebook account (reluctantly) and will have to see the direction that takes me. At the same time, a show of hands in my classrooms revealed that most of my students have facebook accounts. Within fifteen minutes of creating my account, I had ten friendship requests from colleagues at my school. If adults and kids access facebook as much as I think they do, I think they will be equally willing to visit blogs. As I have told you in my last blog comment, I think you have a unique opportunity to fill a niche in the blog world. Perhaps you and Nick could combine ideas and put something out in cyberspace that is really unique. I would be interested in following that blog. :)
I also like the aspect of blogging for class with information and schedules, assignments and such available to the students. Also, the ability to colaborate with other colleages in the same subject area. There is so much information out there that it would be great to share some of it.
