599 wk 1

Starting this last class really feels good. It has taken a lot of work to get this far, even more than I anticipated, but I have learned a lot along the way. During this class I get the opportunity to show what I have learned and I look forward to that. I have begun making the transition between my old Ning that I created and a new Wiki that is still free to use. I am preparing to add the use of the Wiki and an online automotive reference to my classroom in the fall. I experimented with the Ning last year and when I used it things seemed to work. As I work through this last class, it seems fitting to really be focused on how I am going to incorporated all of this newly acquired knowledge into my classroom!

  1. I like the idea that you are going to utilize the Wiki for the class as an automotive reference. I think there are a lot of powerful tutorial and informational handouts that are available to put onto the pages. It will be nice to have an interative resource for the students.

  2. This class may feel good but is scares the hell out of me. The work load seems to be a bit overwhelming at this point and I am wondering if I am in over my head! Perhaps I should not have worked summer school this year!

On the other hand, it is nice to be able to take what I have learned and apply that to the classroom setting. It would be much easier to use all of these wonderful new programs if there were not so many technology restrictions in my school. I feel like I have the knowledge but do not have the equipment. This is yet another battle to fight!

  3. Great idea to transition to the Wiki, Jay. I, however, feel compelled to stick to the Ning. I understand Pearson is going to pay for three years for a basic, educational account. I have to be honest and saying, however, that I'm going to be extremely nervous come July 20 when the new payment plans kick in. Hopefully, my Ning will still be there!

Good luck to you on your project! I have always liked the diversity of your subject area so look forward to checking it out!

  4. Now that we've all been through this program, I don't think any of us will view education the same. Now that we know what we know, can any of us really see education the way we saw it prior to the program?

  5. You have a great ning, and I think it is great that you are transferring it to a wiki. Perhaps that will also allow students to add some content to the course? One thing that really hit home for me throughout this program was the idea of letting students have more ownership of the material.....
